Deutsche Telekom may choose Docomo’s OREX over Huawei 5G network
Deutsche Telekom is finding an alternative to Huawei 5G network these days, and Docomo’s OREX could be the one. A new report says that some German telecoms may choose a new technology to replace the Chinese network solutions.
Claudia Nemat – one of the top technology executives at Deutsche Telekom said that the company requires a solution for Chinese vendor risk due to the UK regulations.
Following these statements, Docomo has suggested a new tech for German telecom – OREX. The technology was launched earlier this year as a joint venture of Docomo and NFC (a Japanese electronics vendor). It is based on the Open RAN concept.
While Huawei network solutions often require telecoms to purchase all the components from the same vendor, open RAN eliminates this requirement. OREX also gives the same “open” treatment to its customers and can pair ‘one supplier of RAN compute with a different supplier of radios’.
OREX’s CTO – Sadayuki Abeta says:
“We provide pre-integrated solutions to operators because they do not have enough capability to integrate by themselves.”
Simply put, OREX is a mixture of different components that help operators to easily work with the network technologies. Perhaps Deutsche Telekom may consider using OREX as an alternative to the Huawei 5G network.
Abeta recently confirmed that OREX executives had a talk with Deutsche Telekom about the new solution. Meanwhile, another source hints that the Chinese tech giant will cooperate with companies like OREX in this topic and will make minimal efforts to protect its network business in Germany.
While OREX seems a good solution, Deutsche Telekom is working on its own RAN model to control cost and other problems coming the way. But again, removing Huawei from scratch requires both time and money. Time to change everything and money for using new network solutions.
