China foldable market grew 50% in Q1 2024, thanks to Huawei: Counterpoint

A new report by Counterpoint shows that China has made immense growth in the Q1 2024 foldable market, where Huawei has outperformed many of its rivals and leading the way. The OEM continues to dominate the foldable market with its creations.

Details say that the China foldable phone market grew by around 48% in the first quarter of this year, with a double sales score for book-type folding handsets.

Consumer demand for book-style foldable phones ultimately rises due to their thinner, larger, and lighter upgrades. Even though the clamshell product didn’t make any major achievements, it has been at a good scale throughout the first quarter.

The book-type foldable obtained a 91% YoY shipment growth rate while the vertical flip-flop models achieved 1% YoY. A major reason for interest-shift in large folding gadgets is their uses in daily life. A big screen, tablet-like features, and impressive design make them more eye-catching than clamshell devices in the market.

Huawei’s Role:

Huawei played a significant role in the growth of China foldable market in Q1 2024. Counterpoint highlights that the 5G capable Mate X5 boosted consumers’ demand for book-style folding devices more than any other device or category on the shelves.

Mate X5 not only offers an incredible design change to the eyes but also brings useful software enhancements. Features like air gesture control and application usability made the device remain at the top in both the native region and global markets.

Pocket 2 is another member that has recently joined the foldable shelf and constantly winning hearts for its unique outlook, quad-camera setup, and 5G capabilities.

Other phone makers like Honor are also doing great – thanks to Magic Vs2. Counterpoint notes that Chinese phone makers are showing keen interest in “better-than-before” and “advanced tech-pack” foldable handsets. Thus the Chinese fold market may continue to boost its growth in the upcoming quarters as well.
