A new report states that BYD will likely adopt Huawei smart car driving solutions for its upcoming off-road vehicle “Leopard 8”. This would be the first time that BYD will opt for the Chinese tech giant’s solutions to enhance its smart cars’ efficiency.

During the Beijing Auto Show 2024, BYD announced its upcoming EVs. The automaker said that there will be three new off-road vehicles and one sports car. All three will use the latest advanced technological solutions and may range around 500000 yuan.

Now a new report has shed light on one of the BYD off-road vehicles – Leopard 8 which will equip Huawei smart car driving solutions. The car is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year. But the exact release details are unknown.

Off-road vehicles refer to adventure vehicles that can easily move on non-paved or bad tracks. For instance, forest roads, trails, sand, rough or low-traction surfaces.

BYD Leopard 8 is already being tested on roads. One of these tests hinted that the EV has the Huawei LiDAR system which isn’t available in the Leopard 5. This will also be the first BYD electric vehicle to obtain the urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA).

Before Huawei, BYD used to purchase car technologies from startups like Horizon, Momenta, DJI, and more. Although this time, the company aims to develop its own driving solutions. It even made a large team to meet its new goals. Perhaps, Huawei might help the company in this matter to a great extent.

Leopard is the sub-brand of BYD. At a meeting, the general manager of the Fangchengbao Division – Xiong Tianbo said that Leopard 8 will bring new surprises in terms of smart driving. He might be talking about Huawei solutions in this segment.
