BYD Leopard 5 LiDAR model has reportedly been spotted in spy shots and expected to use the Huawei ADS 3.0 solution. Just like the Leopard 8, the carmaker could also adopt advanced smart driving solutions for other off-road vehicle variants.

Looking into the spy shots, the BYD Leopard 5 LiDAR model is wrapped with a thin film in some parts. The design is similar to the latest Leopard 5 model. It has a box-like exterior design with thick lines and curves. It gives the feel of a tough SUV.

Further details show the same pull-out door handles as the current model. But the change is a LiDAR (probably Huawei 192-line laser radar) on the roof that improves the driving experience for users.

The LiDAR solution (Light Detection and Ranging) on a vehicle acts as a remote sensing technology. It relies on laser pulses and generates a clear view of the car’s surroundings. Simply put, it detects obstacles and notifies to maintain distance.

It can also recognize road signs, traffic lights, and other important marks on the road. Thus, the new Leopard 5 LiDAR model will offer a better and more convenient driving experience than the current standard variant.

Inputs also reveal that the BYD Leopard 5 LiDAR variant may use Huawei ADS 3.0, the same as the Leopard 8. Both companies have collaborated to develop the world’s first off-road vehicle driving solution. At the same time, the automaker will adopt Huawei’s solutions for its smart cars, making them more impressive.

ADS 3.0: It’s the third-gen autonomous driving solution that acts like a human but with safer assistance. The solution offers excellent driving and navigation aids. It saves you in narrow paths, U-turns, and other complex driving situations.
