BYD is planning to expand its self-driving team and high-end solution to rival Huawei and others. The company aims to adopt a broad way that can help not only its flagship but also low and mid-range EVs to compete with other brands in the market.

During an interview, the Vice President of BYD – Yang Dongsheng said that the company is looking to expand its self-driving team, making it stronger than Huawei and others. At this point, there are around 1000 people in the driving team.

The executive adds that an expansion in the self-driving team will result in a broader advancement. Apart from the team members, BYD also aims to bring high-end smart driving solutions to mid-range and low-end cars for an efficient experience.

Yang says that BYD thinks beyond other car makers and solution suppliers. Most of the urban intelligent driving models are full of narrow autonomous solutions. Although the company aims to introduce a broad combination of techs.

This fusion will involve narrow autonomous driving, the strongest core structure, and the toughest electrification. Together, these components will offer super-human driving assistance. BYD will compress these solutions to seed into mid-range models.

Adding more, Yang stated that all mid and low-end BYD EVs will receive high-end smart driving solutions in the upcoming two years. With a large self-driving team and upgraded solutions for all types of cars, BYD aims to overtake Huawei and others.

The automobile firm has also strengthened its system innovation team with 15000 people. Other than that, the battery designing and packaging team involves 400-500 people.

BYD further aims to integrate AI into its driving solutions. This would be a great implementation as it will make the driving experience smarter and far better than before.

“In the future, the company will invest 100 billion yuan in the field of smart driving, focusing on the R&D of intelligent driving techs including generative AI and large models.” – said the CEO of BYD Auto, Wang Chuanfu.

Everything combined, BYD aims to make its brand the most powerful among its competitors with the help of technology and innovation.

Huawei, on the other hand, continues to enhance its smart solutions with upgraded techs and features. A good example is the Qiankun series which consists of various smart driving capabilities to provide a safer, smarter, and more convenient experience.
