Breaking: Xiaomi announces HyperOS, it’s new operating system
It’s big news for the smartphone industry as Xiaomi has officially announced HyperOS as its new operating system. The release of this OS happened with the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series smartphone lineup.
The latest announcement is coming from the company’s founder, Lei Jun on X, formerly known as Twitter. This notification also concludes long-standing speculation about Xiaomi’s own mobile software, which was rumored to be called “MiOS“.
“Today marks a historic moment. After years of collective work, our new operating system, #XiaomiHyperOS, is set to make its official debut on #Xiaomi14Series.” Lei Jun wrote.
Lei also shared an image of the logo for this upcoming Xiaomi operating system, which reads “Xiaomi HyperOS”. There’s also a subline in Chinese “Xiaomi ThePaper OS” (translated).
It’s hard to decode the intention of the second verse but it might mean the HyperOS would be lightweight and easy to run on different devices. Yeah, that’s how it works.
More likely, the software is designed around Xiaomi’s entire device ecosystem including smartphones, smart wearables, tablets, other consumer electronics, and third-party peripherals. However, the company could go even beyond if it doesn’t rely too much on Android-based core.
Global Launch?
The logo suggests that Xioami HyperOS will remain limited to the Chinese market. Even in the comment section of Lei Jun’s post on X, a user asked him “Is this coming international too?”, Jun, replied, “Stay tuned”. It means that we’ll have to wait until the unveiling of the Xiaomi 14 series.
MIUI:
From the very beginning, Xiaomi has been using MIUI custom Android skin as the sole software for its smartphones. The company has evolved this custom Android ROM with years of development. However, this might be the end of MIUI. But if we see it in Huawei’s way, the company could keep MIUI alive for global users and steady HyperOS for the home market.
There’s more information that is still awaited about the Xiaomi HyperOS.
