Breaking: HarmonyOS 2.0 launched, now supports tablets, wearable and even smartphones
At HDC 2020, Huawei launched HarmonyOS 2.0. With this new version, Huawei has introduced new device platform support for the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
HarmonyOS 2.0 brings a comprehensive upgrade to its existing distributed capabilities, including software bus, data management, and security. Huawei also introduced an adaptive UX framework that allows developers to quickly reach tens of millions of new devices and users.
According to the Huawei, HarmonyOS 2.0 will be available for tablets wearables, and even smartphones. Meanwhile, this OS is already available for Huawei and Honor smart TVs.
HarmonyOS will officially be open-source and developers will be able to gain access to emulators, SDK packages, and IDE tools. The open source project, which is donated toOpenAtom Foundation, will be launched in stages with a mobile HarmonyOS beta release planned firstly for Chinese developers at the end of 2020
To develop HarmonyOS 2.0 apps, Huawei has also launched HarmonyOS 2.0 Beta SDK for developers for platforms including Smart TVs, Smartwatches, and head units that will be available from September 10, 2020. Followed by HarmonyOS 2.0 smartphones SDK in December 2020.
HarmonyOS 2.0 will be available to hardware manufacturers to develop devices on HarmoynOS.
Huawei Consumer Business CEO, Richard said, first HarmonyOS phone will be available at the start of 2021. Moreover, HarmonyOS will be fully open-source before October 2021.
According to the HarmonyOS 2.0 open roadmap, it’ll support the type of memory devices:
- From September 10, 2020 – Device with 128KB to 128MB RAM
- From April 21, 2021 – Device with 128MB to 4GB RAM
- From October 2021 – Device with 4GB to more than 4GB RAM
