Blocking Huawei in the UK will send very bad signal for investment: Chinese Ambassador
After the US restriction on Huawei, the US president is urging its allies including the UK to block the Chinese telecom giant but the Chinese ambassador has clarified that blocking Huawei in the country will bring some consequences.
Chinese ambassador Liu Xiaoming said blocking Huawei from Britain’s 5G network would send a “very bad signal” to other Chinese companies and investment, in an interview with BBC.
“Chinese investment is booming in this country. Even last year it increased by 14%, but if you shut the door for Huawei – it sends a very bad and negative message to other Chinese businesses,” said Liu.
“If [the] UK collaborates with Huawei there would be a promising future on both sides,” he added.
Back in April, Britain’s National Security Council, chaired by Prime Minister Theresa May, already allowed Huawei to take part in the development of non-core parts in the country’s infrastructure. Later on, Huawei equipment was used in the UK’s 5G carrier launch by EE and more want to join the company.
