Microsoft has dispatched an August 2022 software update for Windows subsystem update for Android on Windows 11. Although the update is rolling via all channels but it could only be accessed in the U.S.

The August 2022 Windows subsystem update for Android comes with build version 2206.40000.15.0 and it has several improvements, fixes, and optimizations as well as compatibility additions for gaming.

Insider Preview:

Before we move on to the changelog and details, we also want to mention that this update is rolling alongside the August 2022 insider preview builds of 22621.450 and Build 22622.450. These builds are mentioned with numerous improvements for system features and fix various bugs from the last few updates.

The August 2022 Android Windows subsystem update brings you a new suite of shims to toggle in the Windows subsystem for the Android Settings app to enable a better user experience across different apps.

Compatibility improvements:

  • Compatibility for games with joysticks (mapped to WASD)
  • Compatibility for gamepad in games
  • Compatibility for aiming in games with arrow keys
  • Compatibility for sliding in games with arrow keys

Other improvements:

  • Scrolling improvements
  • Networking improvements
  • Android minimum window size defaulted to 220dp
  • Improved dialog when unsupported VPN is detected
  • New toggle to view/save diagnostic data in the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app
    Security updates
  • General reliability fixes, including improvements to diagnostic sizes
  • Graphics improvements

Latest Issues:

This software also addresses some of the known issues found in the last software builds and explains as the following.

“Some VPNs may not work with Advanced Networking. If you use a VPN and find Android apps do not have network connectivity, please disable Advanced Networking in the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app” wrote Microsoft.
