Apple and Huawei to increase periscope camera use by up to 160% in 2024
Apple and Huawei are working on new smartphones that will surge the sales of periscope camera lenses by up to 160% in the following year.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the Taiwanese precision company Largan is expecting big growth with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the latest Apple device. However, the lens maker is expecting that Largan’s 2023 EPS will reach about 150 vs the market consensus of 130-140.
Being the sole supplier of periscope AKA tetraprism camera for iPhone 15 Pro Max, the production yield of large remains only at 40% in the third quarter of 2023.
However, Kuo is predicting that the yield is now improved by 70% or more, this overcomes the company from further loss. Instead, it allows the assembly to become profitable and the EPS could increase in Q4 2023.
Still, 2024 will add Huawei a new major stack holder in Largan’s periscope supplies for the year. The analyst projected both Apple and Huawei to be the largest customers of periscope cameras.
It’s said that the iPhone 16 Pro will lead tetraprism camera consumption with 160% YoY growth as compared to the iPhone 15 Pro in 2024. On the other hand, the Huawei P70 series, the next P-series model would get better sales than its predecessor, thus reflecting more periscope camera sales at about 100% compared to the Huawei P60.
In terms of supply shares, Largan is the primary supplier of periscope lenses for Apple and Huawei for 2024 with 85-90% and 50-60% shares respectively.
It is reported that Largan’s orders for Apple have improved significantly in the fourth quarter of this year. This is also leading to profit in its overall sales and a boost of orders by 130% in total periscope orders for 2024.
