Android 16 could bring back interesting custom icon shapes
Google could welcome back an interesting feature with Android 16 that was lost years ago – custom icon shapes. The company is preparing to bring the most efficient customization tools with the upcoming major software. Let’s learn about this tool.
Custom icon shape has been an amazing feature in Android phones. It used to display app icons in various shapes such as circular, squircle, rounded square, and more.
Although the company pulled the feature out with Android 12. It seems the custom icon shapes will return with Android 16. The feature has surfaced in a recent beta.
Telegram Channel – Google News reports that the custom icon shape has appeared in the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 but with a new name. The update shows an ‘App Shape & Layout’ option in the Wallpaper & Style section for application icons.
The new feature will enable Pixel smartphone users to change or customize the app icons present on the home screen, in their preferred shapes. It includes circles, squares, rounded corners, stars, and star-like squiggly-lined icons.
If you are a person who loves to customize their home screen now and then, this could be a perfect offering. Google took away this tool, breaking several hearts. But the company is seemingly bringing it back with the Android 16 software system.
The custom app shapes currently show only six choices. However, the tech giant could add more options to the section. Apart from custom app icons, Pixel device owners may discover the Wallpaper & Style section in a redesigned avatar.
Being a beta update, it is still uncertain if Google will bring this customization tool with Android 16. Yet we can expect better enhancement with the next upgrade.
