Android 15 might bring an improved desktop mode, especially for tablets that won’t require external displays. The feature was in rumors for a long time. However, it has been finally spotted in one of the beta update codes, hinting at its arrival.

Earlier we reported that Google has been optimizing the Android’s in-built desktop mode with new capabilities. The additions were likely to enhance multitasking aspects of smartphones with new window management tools and features.

These capabilities include snapping windows, new hover options, window resizing, and many other significant features. Although they are confined to smartphones.

However, the latest Android 15 beta 4.1 update shows a hidden desktop mode, especially for tablets. The advantage of this feature is that users can run it directly on their tablet devices without requiring any external display equipment, unlike phones.

In simple words, Pixel users would be able to run Desktop mode on their phones and tablets, similar to Samsung DeX which works directly on Galaxy phones and tablets.

Further details reveal that the revamped “Desktop Mode” for tablets will reside on the recents screen. Tapping on the dropdown menu of any app will show a ‘Desktop’ option that will launch an application in a freeform slide on the tablet screen. You can move, snap it side, resize, minimize, maximize, or share it with other app windows.

Everything Combined, Android 15 could bring a new desktop mode for your tablet that won’t require any external monitor to work efficiently. You will able to run it on-device on the tablet. Though when the feature will arrive is unclear for now.
