Google is seemingly working on a new feature for Android 15 called Eyes Free Videography. This will likely be a useful capability as it can easily stabilize the video for third-party camera apps. It offers better-than-ever control on your device’s camera.

Android 15 Eyes Free Videography is essential at times when you opt for a third-party camera application rather than your device system’s app. Often these apps play wonders with advanced features and filters but they also lack some useful tools.

To resolve this problem, Android 15 could bring a new API or extension named Camera2. From the name, it might provide better tools and some prominent features for third-party camera apps. Currently, the listed API supports the following extensions:

  • Auto: adjusts the extension mode as per the current background
  • Bokeh: sharpens the foreground subject and blurs the background
  • Face retouch: adds touch-up to the skin texture, under-eye tone, and more
  • HDR: widens exposure range, resulting in more vivid photos
  • Night: brightens images in low-light situations

It is worth mentioning that these extensions are present in Android 14 and vary depending on the device model. While these are mainly for images, the Eyes Free videography will focus on the video recording and would be the first in this segment.

Apart from the 5 extensions listed above, the Eyes Free videography will work as the sixth one that will lock and stabilize a specific object or region in the video. Hence, it can help apps like Snapchat to use video stabilization.

One could be able to access this feature via Settings > Security & Privacy > More security & privacy > Allow camera software extensions. This will let you enable the advanced videography feature for third-party apps.
