Android 15 could ease to manage smart home devices from different brands
Google might add a new protocol to Android 15 that will make it easier to manage smart home devices from various brands. Although this effective and significant capability could be available to some selected smartphones in the time ahead.
Android 15 seems full of surprising features and some of these might play a vital role in a user’s day-to-day life. Apart from energy-saving and UI enhancements, the upgrade could also ease the management of several smart home devices together.
Inputs reveal that Android 15 could enable users to manage different brands’ smart home devices. This will likely become possible by a low-power mesh networking protocol called ‘Thread’. It’s a network stack mainly used for smart home appliances.
The US tech giant has already engrossed Thread in Google TV via the Android TV OS 14. Now the company plans to bring it for phones to simplify interconnectivity.
The thread will take the help of Matter – a smart home communication standard. It was developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) and acts as a universal language between smart home devices, to avoid gaps in between.
In simple words, Matter-compatible devices will easily connect to any application, irrespective of their manufacturer. It doesn’t turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth but fills the communication gap between various smart home devices.
Note that this feature is still under development. However, technical users can explore it through Android 15’s code language. Just visit Settings > Connected Devices > Connection Preferences > Thread. Here you can turn on the “Use Thread” toggle to experience the new feature on eligible devices.
