Huawei Mate 70 series could have 3D Face Recognition technology for all its models. That says a new leak implying the internal parameters of the upcoming flagship. This time, the company may serve new offerings to the standard variant as well.

As @FixedFocus noted, Huawei may use the 3D face recognition tech for the entire Mate 70 series. This means that the base version of the lineup will likely support the advanced unlocking method, unlike all of its predecessor models.

3D Face Recognition uses a ToF (Time-of-Flight) three-dimensional imaging technology to capture facial details. With a high-end depth-sensing camera solution, the tech can effectively recognize faces even in dark or dim-light surroundings.

Unlike 2D or traditional face unlocking methods, the 3D tech is much better. It utilizes more in-depth information such as facial lines, marks, and other details to enhance the device’s security. Thus, users get a more secure ‘unlocking phone’ feature.

The Chinese phone maker implemented the 3D ToF face recognition in many of its Mate models. Huawei brought in this tech with the Mate 20 Pro for the first time and continued it till the Mate 60 Pro handset in a new triple front holes avatar.

Although this impressive feature has been missing from all the base variants so far. None of the standard Mate phones support the 3D Face Recognition technology. But it seems Huawei might change this trend with the upcoming Mate 70 flagship.

Weibo tipster notes that all Huawei Mate 70 series models may equip the 3D face recognition, including the standard model. He also adds that OFILM could be the supplier of these camera sensors. However, the news is still a rumor.

Using new technologies for the standard version will make it somewhat equivalent to other high-end models in the series. This is one of the reasons why the company keeps certain features confined to Pro and Ultra models.

However, Huawei aims to make its upcoming flagship lineup better than previous and every other model in the market. Hence, the rumor may turn into reality in the time ahead. But for now, it is better to take this input with a grain of salt.
