After HarmonyOS, Samsung One UI also removed 5G shortcut from Galaxy phones

Last month, Huawei removed the 5G shortcut switch from HarmonyOS operating system. This embarked a discussion on Huawei device owners and the company later clarified that the latest change is coming from network operators, not Huawei itself.

However, Huawei is not the only one to do this because in the latest development of this story a well-known smartphone maker has applied the same changes.

We’re talking about Samsung, as the South Korean phone maker has recently rolled out a new One UI software update that comes with very familiar changes in 5G section. According to the changelog, the latest Samsung One UI update removes the 5G icon from the notification panel.

We’ve not heard Samsung on this matter but Bruce Lee, president of Huawei’s consumer business product line has provided a statement previously. He said it’s found that many users have bought 5G phones but turned off the 5G switch in use. However, users will always have the option to switch on or off the 5G network access any time from Settings.

In contrast, the operators in China do not want users to switch from 4G to implement the 5G network in the country. This becomes the reason for disabling the 5G shortcut from the shortcut switches in the quick access bar. Similar to Huawei, Samsung phone users can switch network mode via Settings.

To do so:

  • Open Settings
  • Go to Connections
  • Then tap Mobile Network >> Network mode

Though the changelog also mentioned that the South Koren phone maker has made this decision following the terms and conditions of CMCC (China Mobile Communications Corporation). In addition, this update also removed one application named CMCC Online Business Hall from the smartphones.

Other:

It’s expected that other smartphone makers in China including Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, Vivo, and others may soon remove 5G switches from their devices as well and comply with the latest telecom network standard.
