A giant 6GB Huawei security update surprised me more than EMUI 13
Currently, EMUI 13 rollout is one of the most surprising things that could happen to global Huawei smartphone users but recently that surprise is ruined by a giant 6GB security update that landed on a device.
A user of Huawei P40 Pro with EMUI 12 reached out to us and shared an interesting story of what happened to his smartphone.
To start, the device was stuck on September 2022 security update with firmware version EMUI 12.0.0.270 for over 5 months. Yesterday, the user received a surprising system patch. It mentions improvements for the system’s stability in certain scenarios. After installation, the device restarted with no significant difference in performance.
However, the user later reached the software update section to check for another firmware. This time, he saw a jumbo Huawei EMUI security update package of nearly 6GB (5.94GB exactly).
He jumped with excitement that EMUI 13 is landed on his device but the excitement was ruined when he looked at the changelog. Why? Because it contained only January 2023 security patch and nothing else.
We’ve seen big OTA packages but this one is one of the biggest in the past year.
Size?
The large size could be a result of multiple security patches bundled into one OTA package. However, Huawei sent a stability patch before installing the big firmware into the Huawei P40 Pro.
In other words, the large package contains security patches for October, November, December 2022, and January 2023 as well as system patches released these months alongside other optimizations.
Happens to all phones?
Nope, it doesn’t happen to all of the Huawei P40 series models, there are only a few occasions when phones get stuck with such an issue, yet they get covered in time with the latest firmware.
If you are frozen on an old patch, do check for the latest firmware via the My Huawei app and Huawei HiSuite app on PC or MAC platforms.
