We’ve been arguing about the fact that Huawei has also developed Hongmeng OS for smartphones but the company has denied it and today we’ve got some real light on this matter.

Report: Huawei is creating confusion on Hongmeng OS, developing for smartphones or Not?

During the Q&A session of H1 Business Result, Huawei’s Chairman, Liang Hua said Hongmeng was originally developed for of Internet of Things (IoT) and has the potential of being applied for remote health care services, Autonomous driving, and Industrial control.

Liang said the company will evaluate how we can apply this OS in every product in Huawei’s whole portfolio. This OS is a long term that we’ve made and it’s not tactic that we pull out.

“We have the ability to develop our own operating system and the ecosystem around it but we’ll always prefer using Android OS and its ecosystem,” said Liang.

Liang also said that the supply of key components (including Google’s Android) is yet to be resumed and only a small number of deals are restored by the US government.

If the US allows Google to cooperate with us next month, Huawei smartphones will still choose Android, if not, Huawei will Choose your own operating system and ecosystem to provide consumers with better products and services.

After Huawei’s inclusion to Entity List, the US commerce department granted a 90 days reprieve from instance stoppage of its US supplies that’ll end on August 19 but expected to get an extension after Trump’s announcement of ease in trade restrictions.

The main point of this whole conversation is that the journalist asked the same question Liang that we’re asking for a long time about the claim made by Huawei consumer business group CEO, Yu Chengdong said in March that the company has a plan B OS in case it’s banned from using Android or Windows.

As there are plenty of statements from Huawei executives denying that Huawei don’t have an Android replacement nor a backup but it’ll consider if the US stops Android supply to the company.

Both of these statements are made by the company’s top officials and cannot be ignored. On top that it creates a massive amount of confusion but we hope that the current statement made by Mr. Hua stays on top, as the Hongmeng OS speculated to make a debut at HDC 2019.
