EMUI 13 could be based on Android 12

EMUI 13 is confirmed by Huawei and will soon make its way to the consumers. Meanwhile, we are excited about the latest revealings that EMUI 13 has to offer us. One includes the new Android version and whether EMUI 13 will use Android 12 as the base. Let’s find out.

Recently, Huawei has benchmarked Huawei Mate 50 Pro on the system benchmarking platform – Geekbench. The phone has been running HarmonyOS 3 operating system but the platform has listed this phone with Android 12.

It’s confirmed that EMUI 13 will surely get new features from HarmonyOS 3 and if so, then we could expect EMUI 13 to base on Android 12.

If we look back into EMUI 12, Huawei P50 Pro’s global model shows us the presence of Android 11, while EMUI 11 was based on Android 10. Still, some of the Huawei phone’s EMUI 12 versions will show you a base with Android 10.

This is quite an interesting and ambiguous fact that is running around the EMUI system for the moment.

Compatibility?

EMUI currently using the open source project Android project, since it cannot use the GMS version. On the other hand, instead of using the entire project, HarmonyOS operating system is using open source libraries of AOSP, to support and run Android apps.

The current aim for both EMUI and HarmonyOS remains the same, to support and install Android mobile apps.

The factor for using the old version of Android in the base is also related to the backward compatibility, which shows that the company wants to upgrade its oldest possible devices with the latest EMUI updates.

This leads us to the current subject of discussions such as Huawei Mate 10 and P30 Lite devices. These have been one of the least possible models to upgrade over EMUI 12.

The most intriguing part of the story unveils a good amount of facts for us. These phones have been running EMUI 10.0 and have not received EMUI 10.1 and EMUI 11.

After 2 years, Huawei Mate 10 series directly upgrades over EMUI 12 from EMUI 10. This is an amazing development that made the Mate 10 device owners happy. But it could be only possible with an older version of Android since the device has already lost its compatibility power with the latest Android requirements.
