WhatsApp will end Android 4.0 and below device support in November
WhatsApp will end support for the Android 4.0.4 version and below support from November 1 onwards. The company has officially announced that the support is over for the corresponding Android version devices and phone models.
The latest action is related to the upcoming version of Android and the latest features that WhatsApp developers want to include in this app that doesn’t support the lower version of the Android due to the API restrictions.
Furthermore, the developers also come to a point that the App doesn’t seem to be used much in the least version of Android. Therefore the upcoming WhatsApp versions may soon exclude the support for this Android platform.
WhatsApp also published a guideline on this matter and clearly mentioned supporting Android phones running OS 4.1 or later. In our opinion, this is just common practice and a required one.
WhatsApp Chat history:
If any of the Android 4.0.4 or below users want to continue using WhatsApp, they must have to migrate their chat history from their old phone to a new one via the following instructions.
First Back up your Chats:
Go to WhatsApp > tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > BACK UP.
Export Chat History:
- Open the individual or group chat.
- Tap More options > More > Export chat.
- Choose whether to export with media or without media.
An email will be composed with your chat history attached as a .txt document.
Restore your backup:
There are two ways that you can restore the backup:
Via cloud
- Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.
- Open WhatsApp and verify your number.
- When prompted, tap RESTORE to restore your chats and media from Google Drive.
- After the restoration process is complete, tap NEXT. Your chats will be displayed once initialization is complete.
- WhatsApp will begin restoring your media files after your chats are restored.
Via local storage:
- Your phone will store up to the last seven days worth of local backup files.
- Local backups will be automatically created every day at 2:00 AM and saved as a file on your phone.
- If your data isn’t stored in the /sdcard/WhatsApp/ folder, you might see “internal storage” or “main storage” folders.
