On June 2, 2021, Huawei unveiled its HarmonyOS 2 operating system for smartphones. At the launch event, the company unveiled a number of new devices pre-packed with this OS including the MatePad Pro 2021, and the brand new Watch 3 series.

The Chinese tech giant then began to rollout the latest HarmonyOS 2 for eligible smartphone holders including the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 30, P40, P30, Mate 20, and more devices from the Honor campaign.

On July 29, 2021, Huawei unveiled the P50 and P50 Pro flagship, which comes with a brand new camera system, beautiful design, and a set of new features. This is the first flagship device that comes with pre-installed HarmonOS 2.

According to previous reports, the Huawei P50 device expected to land with new HarmonyOS features but it didn’t happen. Instead, only the P50 Pro made it to the sale on August 12. However, the company saved the standard version for later on.

HarmonyOS 2.1

Information reveals that standard Huawei P50 will come with HarmonyOS 2.1 operating system. While the Huawei P50 Pro currently enjoyed HarmonyOS 2.0.

Meanwhile, there is some important input that has just been dropped from the corner of well known Weibo tipster. That suggests HarmonyOS 2.1 is specially optimized for Snapdragon 888 chipset and the company has added new features to this.

The tipster explained, the new features that were reported for the Huawei P50 series actually designed with HarmonyOS 2.1, not for HarmonyOS 2.0. Therefore, they’ll empower the Huawei P50 and will expand support for the Snapdragon chipsets for future use cases.

Meanwhile, the feature of this upcoming HarmonyOS 2.1 version remained unknown. On the other side, consumers that already have installed HarmonyOS 2.0 want to upgrade over HarmonyOS 2.1 as soon as possible.

HarmonyOS 2.0: Roadmap progress:

As of August 10, 2021, Huawei has released HarmonyOS in over 50 million smartphones in China. Data reveals that nearly 8 users are upgrading over HM OS per second. On August 29, Huawei has completed 70 million installations, which is a huge milestone to cover. With this speed, the company is likely to go beyond this milestone and soon touch 100 million devices.

In mid-September, Huawei is looking to open HarmonyOS 2.0 public beta for old flagships such as Huawei P20, Mate 10, and other devices including the Honor X10 and more.
