Huawei immediately lost Google’s support for EMUI/Android OS: Report
On Wednesday, Trump signed an official order to ban Huawei’s telecom business in the US but it seems like the ban effect has also brought a big loss for the Chinese telecom giant in the form of suspension from Google.
Trump inks executive order to ban Huawei’s telecom kit
According to Reuters, Google has suspended business with Huawei that requires the transfer of hardware and software products except those covered by open source licenses, an internal source told on Sunday.
The source also said, “Huawei will immediately lose access to updates to the Android operating system, and the next version of its smartphones outside of China will also lose access to popular applications and services including the Google Play Store and Gmail app.”
From now on, Google will stop providing any technical support and cooperation for Android and its services to Huawei confirmed the source.
Google is still discussing details of the specific apps under this ban but Huawei will continue to have access to the version of the Android operating system available through the open source license that is freely open to anyone who wishes to use it
From every Huawei user’s perspective, this is a huge disappointment because without Google’s app support, EMUI, Huawei’s customized operating system based on Android, will totally have to depend on Huawei AppGallery, which doesn’t have the content similar to Google Play Store.
Moreover, the biggest effect of this suspension will be the end of software support for Huawei’s software update program, which will now be halted for future updates and we still have to find out what the company will respond on this matter.
On May 15, The US president officially signed a trade blacklist, adding restrictions that’ll make the company very difficult to do business with American firms, which labeled as an action against national security threats.
The US believes that telecom equipment made by Huawei Technologies could be used to spy on the country and is under control by the Chinese state government. On the other hand, Huawei has always denied these allegations and said their equipment has no such threats.
