Huawei HarmonyOS can run Google Mobile Services and Play Store app, shows tipster through developer beta build

Huawei’s upcoming self-developed distributed operating system, HarmonyOS 2.0 has already entered the public mobile developer beta testing program for devices including foldable phone Mate X2, and models from Mate 40, P40, Mate 30, MatePad Pro, Smart Screen S series.

However, the first batch of devices of HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer beta activity has started receiving an upgrade notification to switch their smartphones from Android 10 based EMUI 11 to HarmonyOS.

But, many users are confused about whether they should shift to HarmonyOS or not. Because of what changes will be made from Android to HarmonyOS but some bold users have upgraded and reviewed that fluency and daily use are still good. However, some users claim it is much smoother than Android.

Still, there are some questions are in Android users’ minds including the Google Mobile Service (GMS) and Play Store. As they think, whether this Google software suite will work on the latest HarmonyOS software.

Regarding this, a Weibo tipster using Mate 40 Pro+ and the latest developer beta build of HarmonyOS shown that Google services are not affected at all. And can still be used after upgrading to HarmonyOS.

Moreover, Huawei has not explained how to be compatible with Google service but in terms of application but it is not impossible for HarmonyOS to support the Play Store.

Meanwhile, there’s no confirmation on Huawei’s plan with Google due to the current U.S. trade ban or even Huawei is planning to retain the APK installation part in the final release.

According to Wang ChengluHuawei Consumer BG Software Engineering Dept President and AI and All-scenario Intelligence Business Unit Director, HarmonyOS will be available for general consumers beginning from June this year. As the rollout proceeds, more models will be adopted.
