A massive software update rolling out for Huawei P20 and P20 Pro with Smart Charge and Huawei Assistant

Huawei P20 Pro

Huawei P20 and P20 Pro running EMUI 10, now receiving a new software that installs Huawei Assistant, Smart Charge mode, and security patches released in July 2020. The main focus on this matter lies in the massive 4.41GB update package size.

In the past, we’ve seen the rollout of a number of “huge” software updates for old Huawei and Honor smartphones. Notably, these updates include only a few new features and a monthly security patch and not the OS upgrade.

Last week, Huawei P20 and P20 Pro on EMUI 10 in Europe also received July 2020 security update but it didn’t includes Huawei Assistant and Smart Charge.

Update Changelog:

Huawei Assistant:

Adds Huawei Assistant to the home screen, providing smart reminders, personalized news, and other content relevant to you.

Battery:

Adds the Smart Charge mode, reducing battery aging by adapting to your charging routine through AI learning and preventing the battery from being continuously charged when full. (This feature is enabled by default.)

Security: Integrated Android security patches released in July 2020 for improved system security.

July 2020 Security Patch Details:

The July 2020 security update installs Android patches from Huawei and Google, fixing different levels of exploits and issues within Huawei phones including 5 critical and 9 high levels of CVEs. There is no Medium and Low level of CVEs found.

EMUI VERSION:

Huawei P20 and P20 Pro on EMUI 10 receiving this update with EMUI 10 version 10.0.0.174. The package size hits at 4.41GB, which may not be appreciated by some users. Also, it is not necessary that all of the users of Huawei P20 and P20 Pro receive this update.
