Huawei and Samsung goes head to head for the first spot in global smartphone market in Q2 2020: Gartner
Various market researcher has already declared Huawei the champion of the second quarter of 2020 but data shown by Gartners has a different story to tell.
According to the data, Huawei shipped 54,124 units of smartphones with an 18.4% market share, an increase from 15.7% market at the same time last year. However, Huawei declined 6.8$ in the Q2 2020. On the other hand, Samsung recorded a pretty heavy decline of 27% and shipped 54,759 units as well as 18.6% market share.
The difference in market share and unit shipment is very low between Huawei and Samsung in Q2 2020.
“Among the top five smartphone makers, Samsung experienced the largest decline in sales while Apple’s smartphone sales were nearly flat year-over-year. Although Huawei also declined in smartphone sales year-over-year, it experienced 27.4% growth, quarter-over-quarter, moving it into a virtual tie with Samsung for the No.1 position.”
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact the global mobile phone industry, as worldwide sales of smartphones to end users totaled 295 million units, receiving a decline of 20.4% in the second quarter of 2020.
“Huawei’s performance in China helped it avoid a worse quarterly performance,” said Mr. Gupta. “Huawei extended its lead in China where it captured 42.6% of China’s smartphone market in the second quarter of 2020. Huawei put in place an aggressive product introduction and sales promotion in China in particular and benefited from the strong support of communications services providers for its 5G smartphones.”
