Huawei to launch ‘price aggressive’ foldable phone, with in-fold and clamshell designs

Last year, Huawei introduced its first foldable phone, then refreshed it earlier this year and according to some new information, the company is moving ahead to launch new types of foldable phones.

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants during a Q&A with a tech Youtuber – GregglesTV revealed that Huawei is working on a foldable device that folds inwards, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Ross also claimed that the company is working on foldable designs such as clamshell on the sideline of inward type fold. He said that the next foldable phone from Huawei may land around September or October in 2020.

As you can notice, Huawei also launches the Huawei Mate series flagship during this timespan. But it’s unlikely that Huawei will choose to launch a new foldable side by side Huawei Mate 40 series and may pick a date a few weeks early or later.

The new foldable device will also receive a cut in price but there are no exact estimates of its prices. Huawei Mate Xs launched at 2499 Euros and its predecessor which didn’t make its launch to the global market, priced at CNY 16,990 (around 2160 EUR).

“We expect to see Huawei pursue both a clamshell and an in-folding model, and we think they’re struggling to come up with an ultra-thin glass solution right now for the clamshell. But we do expect them to do an in-folding model later this year, and be pretty aggressively priced,” said Ross.

Back in October, Huawei debuted its first foldable phone – Huawei Mate X, packed with Kirin 980 processor and Balong 5000 5G modem. The phone later surpassed by Huawei Mate Xs with an improved design, display, and hinge mechanism.

The recent exposure of the patent reveals that the company is already is experimenting with new designs and it’ll be interesting a new foldable device Huawei presents to the global consumers with a reasonable price tag.
