Alleged Huawei Phone with Full View Display

Update: April 26

Apart from the leak, the image is not related to the context of this content and it’s actually a computer-generated render of a different smartphone.

Actual Story: April 25

With the smartphone revolution, the manufacturers have not only changed the size of the display but they’ve found new ways to reduce the bezels and maximize the display view. The search for a maximized display view has brought us solutions such as hole punch and pop-up selfie camera.

However, there could be a new camera solution coming from Huawei that will enable a real full view screen. A well-known tipster from Weibo recently posted an alleged render of an upcoming Huawei phone equipped with a new display design.

According to the render, the phone shown in the image has a full view display with no hole punch or notch design and it curves from edges. The bezels on top and bottom are also thin.

If you look closely (full images linked below), you’ll found that the UI has a new taskbar above the status bar with MINIMISE and CLOSE icons on the left and right side respectively.

The most interesting thing is, there’s no pop-up camera on this phone. We tried to expose the image with the highest brightness and confirmed that there’s no movable camera spot on the top.

It means two things – first, the phone has an under-screen camera or the phone doesn’t have a front camera, which is a rare possibility.

If it has an under-display camera, then we have to bring you back to a patent filed last year and fits perfectly on this phone.

Somewhere around July 2019, Huawei filed a patent in Germany for the under-display camera. The patent also includes sketches revealing the actual design and how it works.

The patented design has features such as changing the behavior of the top bar according to the app or uses cases. Most importantly, the camera is hidden under the screen and appears only with the app.

Currently, Huawei has not confirmed any such phone with the design shown below. Also, if it’s really a Huawei phone, then there are fair chances of it being the upcoming Huawei Mate S flagship. Still, we’ll wait to see more pages to unfold of this story.

Stay tuned…
