Coronavirus to affect global smartphones manufacturing and shipment

A recent report from the market researcher revealed that the global smartphone shipment for the full year reached 1.4 billion units in 2019, and this year this shipment record could get a blow from the Coronavirus.

Since most of the global smartphone companies are based in China, the new coronavirus will affect the smartphone supply chain and manufacturing capacity due to isolation and travel restrictions that will lead to labor shortages and manufacturing halt.

According to the information, Huawei, Vivo, and Xiaomi will be one of the biggest players to face the challenge from Coronavirus. Moreover, Apple could also face production shortages from the current situation in the Chinese market.

“The global smartphone shipments are forecast to be 2% lower than the projected shipments for 2020 caused by new Coronavirus and China’s smartphone shipments expected to reduce by 5% with 30% decline to be seen in China’s smartphone market this year. said Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics.

Started last year, a total of 5G smartphone shipments reached 19 million units in 2019 and 5G smartphones are also under the threat to face a slowdown.

“The recent coronavirus scare is currently restricting trade in some parts of China and this may well cause a slowdown in 5G supply or demand across Asia or worldwide during the first half of 2020.
