A major German telecom selects Huawei to build its 5G network
The German telecom – Telefonica Deutschland picked Huawei on Wednesday to build its fifth-gen network in the country.
According to Bloomberg, Telefonica has chosen Huawei to supply 5G network equipment alongside Nokia under the dual vendor strategy.
The decision made by Telefonica comes amid a heated debate in Germany over the US request whether Huawei poses such a serious security threat that it should remove from 5G network development.
Telefonica Deutschland, which operates under the O2 brand, named Huawei as a 5G vendor, following Switzerland’s Sunrise and started its 5G network earlier this year.
Two of the major telecoms – Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone are the existing customers of Huawei and likely to build their 5G network with the Chinese telecom giant.
According to the information, Huawei has accounted for over 60 commercial contracts for 5G with leading global carriers and shipped more than 400,000 5G base stations.
