China rolls out largest 5G network, Huawei is the equipment supplier

On October 31, China’s three major telecoms announced that the rollout of 5G mobile phone services using Huawei’s network equipment.

China Mobile, the country’s largest carrier, introduced its network 5G plans priced as low as 128 yuan ($18) per month. China Telecom and China Unicom have also introduced their plans and services in the competition.

These operators had originally planned to commercialize their network early next year but accelerated the rollout plan. And according to the information, the commercial 5G network will now launch this Friday.

Authorities have said that they plan to install over 50,000 5G base stations across 50 Chinese cities in the country by the end of this year, and big cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou, are already covered by the 5G network, reported Reuters.

It was reported that Huawei is the largest 5G contract holder in China and equipment supplier to all three major telecoms.

On October 16, Huawei announced that it has signed more than 60 commercial contracts for 5G with leading global carriers and shipped more than 400,000 5G base stations.

Huawei’s annual production next year is expected to surpass 1.5 million units, compared with 600,000 estimated for this year, and some of them also include parts made in the US.

Ren Zhengfei, Huawei founder and CEO said the company is planning to sell more than 2 million 5G base stations over the next two years.
