Huawei will build a range of sensors for self-driving cars, says top executive

In order to play a major role in the Autonomous industry, Huawei said to utilize its 5G technologies to develop radar for autonomous driving cars.

Huawei will build an “ecosystem” of car-equipped sensors, Xu Zhijun, the current holder of the company’s rotating chairmanship, told a Beijing conference on intelligent connected vehicles on Tuesday, reported Reuters.

Xu said Huawei will use its 5G technologies to develop millimeter-wave radar and laser radar. However, Xu didn’t reveal any timeframe for these radars.

Autonomous driving industry is a growing market and global firms are investing a huge sum of money on the technologies related to self-driving cars.

However, it’ll take years for the industry to achieve “Level 4” or comply with full self-driving standard, which will let vehicles to handle all aspects of driving without requiring human interventions.
