PSA: Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro begin rolling out in the global market with HMS and not the GMS

Unveiled on September 19, Huawei Mate 30 series has now begun expanding outside of the Chinese territory to Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, European countries. And the one thing that has been confirmed that this flagship lineup is rolling out Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and not with the Google Mobile Services (GMS).

For your information, the Huawei Mate 30 series runs the open-source version of Android 10 but doesn’t come with Google services and applications due to the US trade ban. Since Huawei cannot certify its new smartphones from Google, the company has decided to move forward with HMS.

Under the initial efforts, Huawei has bet on third-party developers to expand the HMS ecosystem and announced an investment of US $1 billion under the developer program called the “Shining Star” that will provide support for developers willing to develop with HMS.

Although, the shining star program is surely a big move from Huawei, yet still Google services are meant to serve Android and its app ecosystem is way too bigger than any OS in the market that has been developed throughout a long timeline.

However, Huawei doesn’t have to work from scratch because it already operating its set of mobile services and applications that come pre-installed on its smartphones including Huawei AppGallery, Assistant and Browser; core services like HUAWEI Cloud, wallet and Skytone; and content services like HUAWEI Video, Music and Reader. As well as services related to IoT and cross-device platform.

So, the only and big challenge for the company is to grow its app ecosystem for global users to replace its current reliance on GMS, which may create some hurdles in sales of Mate 30 series in the global market.
