Huawei can built 5G mobile network in Norway, says minister

Norway is amongst the top buyer of Huawei’s network equipment and the country has clearly said it won’t block the Chinese tech giant from building the country’s 5G network.

“We have a good dialogue with the companies on security, and then it is up to the companies themselves to choose suppliers. We haven’t got any bans against any suppliers in Norway,” cabinet minister Nikolai Astrup told Reuters, who spearheads the government’s digital strategy.

The US has alleged Huawei’s network gear as national security that could be used by the Chinese government for spying, of which the company has repeatedly denied. In May, the US has put Huawei in the blacklist to cut its business and also pushing its allies countries to do the same.

Huawei is also working with the state-controlled Telenor, which has 182 million subscribers across eight countries in Europe and Asia, signed its first major contract with Huawei in 2009, a deal that helped pave way for the Chinese firm’s global expansion.

Huawei announced that it has so far gained over 50 5G commercial contracts around the globe and shipped more than 150,000 base stations. Moreover, it’s looking to over 500,000 bases stations by this year that will increase upto 2 million by next year.
