U.S.-China restrictions chapter has reached a new climax where Huawei is warning that bans on Chinese tech could be equally harmful to Europe’s AI potential. It may limit the development of the artificial intelligence industry outside China.

Tony Jin Yong – the Vice-President of Huawei Europe recently had some discussions over global AI governance and China-Europe cooperation in Beijing.

He mentioned that the situation is quite stressful and he is confused by the ongoing sanctions and tougher restrictions on Chinese technological companies.

Jing says that the sanctions approach limits cooperation by focusing on the country of tech companies. He added that not every company should be added to the entity list or else, the global firms will be left with no ideal companies to cooperate with.

Huawei executive believes that using political ideas to ban Chinese firms and restrict them from using foreign goods is completely wrong. Doing so will weaken Europe’s AI potential in the global technological race and put it way behind.

“We disagree with using the political stance to block certain companies from the market. This not only harms global collaboration but also limits the potential of Europe’s AI industries.” – says Tong Jin Yong.

Tony Jin further stated that China and Europe’s collaboration will result in great potential as AI development depends mainly on global cooperation and innovation.

It will eventually provide equal rights, opportunities, and rules for all countries and companies. Adding to this, a French ambassador at the event said:

“AI can be, and hopefully will be, an important topic of engagement between Europe and China, considering both parties’ interest and contributions on the matter.”

Huawei simply means that China technology with Europe’s AI can form a powerful global conversation. It can lead to more opportunities for cross-border collaboration that can boost the business benefits for consumers.

Amid the US trade control pressure, support from Europe could prove a major benefit for China and Huawei. The tech giant has been dealing with sanctions since 2019. It is still in the chains and cannot access high-end techs at all.

But Europe can act as a helping hand in this case. Although this is just a statement by a Huawei executive. How Europe and the US will react over it would be a game-changing instance.
