Nokia is ready to phase out Huawei from the Deutsche Telekom 5G network tech. The Finnish company recently signed a new agreement with the German network operator to launch its Open RAN (ORAN) solutions in over 3,000 sites in Germany.

Huawei has been fighting a battle over 5G network tech in Germany for a while. Following the UK ban and regulations, the native telecom operators were instructed to “rip and replace” Chinese 5G network solutions from their core.

Deutsche Telekom even suggested that removing Huawei from their 5G network seems quite difficult as it requires money, time, as well as a lot of new skills.

The telecom was also looking for an effective replacement for Huawei in its 5G network core and chose Nokia. Both German and Finnish firms have now penned down a cooperation where Nokia will deploy its network via ORAN in 3000+ sites.

Nokia’s return in Europe

As per the report, the new deal is a sign of Nokia’s return to Europe’s largest network. The contract further includes Fujitsu. It will focus on laying ORAN technology across Germany. Commercial deployment has even started in a few areas of the country.

Deutsche Telekom has been inspecting Nokia’s network tech since last year. After the trial’s result, Nokia is now ready to replace Huawei 5G network equipment.

Nokia and Ericsson will likely serve as the two major suppliers in Europe’s largest network market. These telecom equipment makers will sell ORAN technology. The ultimate 5G tech ensures significant cost savings due to cloud-based software and combines equipment from multiple suppliers instead of depending on one tech.

The U.S. and UK believe that Chinese companies like Huawei/ZTE use such elements in their technological products that can spy on their national security. As a result, these foreign authorities ordered their native firms to replace Huawei products with better alternatives at the earliest.

Although Huawei is still considered one of the top 5G network solution suppliers. How this rip-and-replace situation proceeds would be worth looking forward to.
