Huawei could adopt a different Kirin chip for the standard Mate 70. Unlike the previous-gen models, the new lineup may feature two Kirin chips. One for the vanilla variant while the other for the high-end handsets like Pro, Pro+, and RS Ultimate.

Weibo tipster @FixedFocus and its assistant say that the standard Huawei Mate 70 could use a different Kirin chip over its siblings. This distinct and mysterious chipset may slightly be inferior compared to the top-end variants’ processors.

A few netizens said that the standard model might use a previous-gen chip such as the Kirin 9000s or 9010. Whereas, the other versions may run a new chipset.

  • Kirin 9000s: 1 x 2.62GHz + 3 x 2.15GHz + 4 x 1.53GHz
  • Kirin 9010: 2 x 2.3GHz + 6 x 2.18GHz + 4 x 1.55GHz

Others said that Huawei will have new Kirin chips for all Mate 70 handsets. Although these chipsets might differ in core numbers and arrangements to some extent.

Last year, Huawei unveiled all the Mate 60 models with the same SoC – the Kirin 9000s. But this time, the Chinese phone maker might change its strategy and bring two different processors for the upcoming flagship lineup.

Huawei has taken up such a strategy with Mate 40 series years back. While the Pro and higher variants use Kirin 9000 5G, the standard model runs on 9000E.

The main difference between both these chips is the number of GPU and NPU cores. The former has two big cores while the E-tagged SoC has a single big core.

It seems Huawei may adopt this plan to satisfy the chip production. Using two different chips in the Mate 70 series will help maintain sufficient SoCs in the background. It will also eliminate the tight supply of devices after the official launch.

A 6nm processor called Kirin 9100 has recently surfaced with powerful and significant core adjustments. It is expected to match the performance level of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8+ Gen 1 for CPU and GPU respectively.

This alleged chip might show up with the top-notch variants of the Mate 70 series. Things are uncertain for the moment but we may find the accurate details after the official unveiling.
