Huawei increases OLED display demand by 81% amid U.S. sanctions
Huawei is increasing its smartphone OLED display demand by 81% this year. The company’s OLED panel stock is expected to increase from 33.7 million units to 61 million by the end of 2024. The OEM will continue to order these screens from BOE.
TheElec reports OLED supply in the smartphone market. It highlights that Samsung has kicked out BOE and joined forces with China’s Visionox and Tianma.
Samsung ended its relationship with BOE over the patent dispute in the US and China. But this might not affect the supplier much as Huawei has its back.
Inputs reveal that despite the U.S. sanctions, Huawei has increased OLED display demand for smartphones by 81% this year. The report hints that the company may order 61 million units of OLED screens this year. It was 33.7 million last year.
Huawei started stepping back in the smartphone game last year, following the Mate 60 series launch. Things were quite fine before 2019 when the Chinese tech giant used to give a tough spot to Apple, Samsung, and others in the global phone market.
However, the U.S. sanctions pushed the company down from its peak. Yet, Huawei has started recovering. Alongside itself, the company is also supporting native suppliers to fight against the U.S. ban and become self-reliant to a significant extent.
The details further reveal that BOE has the largest volume of Huawei’s smartphone OLED panels – 31 million units. Perhaps, the company will order high-end screens for Mate 70 smartphones from the same supplier.
Apart from BOE, Visionox will supply 22 million OLED panel units, CSOT will deliver 6 million units, whereas, EverDisplay will bring 2 million units to Huawei this year.
