A US lawmaker recently wrote a criticizing letter to Biden administration for careless monitoring of Huawei and TSMC. It seems the latest chipset controversy is putting pressure on foreign authorities to have a better watch on Chinese companies.

Huawei-TSMC chip quarrel news is in the wild. One of the TSMC-made chips has been found in the Huawei AI processor which resulted in a huge conflict.

Mark Warner – a Democratic Senator recently slammed the US authorities for negligible monitoring of TSMC and Huawei. He wrote a letter to the government highlighting ‘repeated leadership failures’ in imposing better trade export regulations.

The letter reads:

“TSMC’s production of chips for Huawei has serious implications for U.S. national security. I urge you to swiftly take immediate steps to assess and strengthen the efficacy of existing controls.”

Warner’s letter implies that the U.S. isn’t taking sufficient measures to restrict the advanced chipmaking growth in China. Such careless surveil may let the Chinese companies like Huawei progress in the AI and other high-end tech fields.

The Biden administration didn’t respond to this letter yet. Although the Commerce Department said that the US has never been as tough on China as it is at present. It already added 400+ Chinese firms to the Entity List with extensive trade rules.

“We will continue to use all of our tools – administrative, criminal, and regulatory – to safeguard U.S. national security.”  – said the Commerce Department.

Chinese Embassy sees the topic as an unnecessary concern for security. It urges the U.S. to stop overstretching the “national security” to suppress Chinese firms.

Huawei-TSMC chip investigation is still on. The U.S. is trying to identify the loopholes in its trade regulations and fill them at the earliest to avoid such scenarios.

But if Huawei is trying to become self-reliant, it won’t be affected by the tougher regulations. The company aims to build its products in every field rather than relying on U.S. technologies.
