WhatsApp brings like reaction and private mentions to status updates

WhatsApp has officially introduced the ‘Like Reaction’ and ‘Private Mentions’ features for status updates. The company has already been testing these tools for some beta testers. Now these additions will soon make their way to other non-beta app users.

The official blog reads that the Like reactions and private mentions in the WhatsApp Status are some of the best additions so far. Just like Instagram and Facebook, users can now tag their contacts on their status and can react a like on others’ status.

Here’s a small description of both features:

• Like Reaction: Users will see a small heart icon beside the reply bar on the status. A single tap on this icon will enlighten a green heart.
• Private Mentions: Now users can tag their contacts, friends, or family members on their WhatsApp status.

It is worth mentioning that the company has also added a reshare button beside the reaction tool. This feature will enable your “tagged contacts” to reshare your status on their app and with their audience, enhancing the app’s interaction with users.

Both these features and private. Thus, only you will see who has liked your status. On the other hand, you can mention your friends privately. Only your tagged friends will be notified via an alert that you have mentioned them on your status.

WhatsApp says that these features are now rolling out and will soon be available to users globally. Meanwhile, the company will introduce more interesting features to the status updates in the time ahead.
