Samsung Huawei satellite communication

When it comes to the satellite communication race, Huawei is at the forefront while Samsung is still trying to catch up. But some new signs show that the South Korean company may finally serve its “Galaxy” smartphones with satellite features this year.

The South Korean firm was in news for bringing satellite connectivity with the Galaxy S23 series. But even after the launch of S24 models, the respective technology was missing from the Galaxy devices. It seems that won’t be the case anymore!

AndroidAuthority carried out an APKTeardown of some Samsung apps to check on new features. It found a few strings in Phone and Messages app related to satellite connectivity.

These codes hint that Samsung is preparing a most-awaited feature for its Galaxy devices. Perhaps, the company is directly deploying satellite features support to some of its system apps. But this will likely be possible with the help of Google Messages.

According to the latest APKTeardown, Samsung Messages will redirect a Galaxy phone holder to Google Messages for using satellite features. One can send quick texts to friends, family, or emergency contacts at times of need via Google Messages.

The Android maker has been trying to adopt satellite SMS capability for its Messages app. Now it looks like Samsung will join Google to use this feature on its flagship handsets. It’s unclear which device will be eligible to obtain this functionality. Although the feature might roll out to some users with Android 15 this year.

Satellite Communication for devices is quite in demand – thanks to Huawei for introducing this capability with the Mate 50 series. Over time, the company evolved this technology with two-way messaging and even calling scenarios.

Pura 70 series took satellite communication tech to the next level by unveiling “image-sending” via satellite. We may find more amazing upgrades in this field with the Mate 70 flagship.

Apart from Huawei, brands like Apple, Honor, as well as many other Chinese phone vendors adopted satellite communication tech, but Samsung is about two years behind its other rivals in this competition. Though it may be on track by the end of this year.
