Huawei has developed the largest R&D Center in Shanghai worth $1.4 billion. The company constructed the new base amid a growing chip war between U.S. and China. It consists of advanced services and facilities for operators that are worth looking at.

The new Huawei R&D Center in Shanghai is named ‘Lianqui Lake’. It covers 2600 acres which is larger than the Apple Park and Microsoft’s Redmond Campus, combined. It has over 40000 offices which can give room to 35000 employees.

Next interesting segment of this center is over 100 cafes. Huawei’s chief executive and founder Ren Zhengfei expects that the new Research and Development Center could attract foreign scientists and talented individuals to join the company’s ecosystem.

Lianqui Lake R&D Center has around 8 blocks (divided into eight districts) and 104 buildings in total. These buildings comprise labs, offices, and leisure areas which are linked with each other via an internal railway system.

In terms of work, the new R&D Center aims to comprise all kinds of work like smartphones, automobiles, and digital energy research. Huawei has been working on the facility since 2021 and now it’s almost complete and requires final touch-ups.

While developing the Lianqui Lake R&D Center in 2021, Ren Zhengfei said:

“We aim to create an atmosphere suitable for foreign scientists to work and live in. Perks like 100 cafes and better infrastructure will further attract young talent from overseas.”

Huawei aims to strengthen its research and development to the fullest. This will eventually help the company deal with the ongoing chip war and the tough U.S. sanctions. With a large R&D Center that looks after many works together, the company would be able to operate and manage its different departments more easily.

The Chinese tech giant invests more than enough amount to its R&D sector. It believes that a powerful research and development branch will contribute to better as well as more effective making of advanced processors.
