Huawei Mate 70 series might use Sony IMX989 alongside new sensor
A new leak says that Huawei could use Sony IMX989 alongside a new sensor for the Mate 70 flagship. The second camera sensor is currently a mystery. But as per some previous inputs, this could be a new invention from OmniVision foundry.
Weibo tipster @BeijingDigitalMaster says that the upcoming Huawei Mate 70 series might adopt a brand-new sensor together with the Sony IMX989 optical sensor.
While the former remains a secret, the latter must be familiar to many of us. The Chinese phone maker has used this lens for Pura 70 Ultra’s main camera segment.
It seems the company might use it again for the next Mate lineup but with a new distinct camera sensor. Earlier, the IMX989 was tipped to come with the Mate 60 series. Although Huawei implemented it in its newest brand model – Pura 70 Ultra.
Pura 70 Ultra smartphone uses an IMX989 sensor with a hybrid lens combination. Regarding the Mate 70 series, a rumor suggested that the next flagship could use a new 1-inch larger variable aperture camera with a hybrid lens.
It seems the current leak is quite in line with early revelations for the Mate 70 series. Although the exact details are still out of the frame and we may find them later.
The primary camera sensor – IMX989 by Sony is a 1-inch (50.3MP) lens. It uplifts smartphone photography to the best level. The sensor uses a 4-in-1 binning technology that helps to capture superior-quality images and manage light intake effectively.
Perhaps the second one will belong to OmniVision. Early inputs said that Huawei is testing several OmniVision camera sensors like OV50H, OV50M, and OV50N. The firm is also expected to use customized main camera sensors for the next Mate lineup.
Expected camera sensors for Mate 70 handsets also include OV50K. It is one of the latest creations by OmniVision with 50MP and a 1/1.3-inch sensor. After the Pura 70 Ultra, the Mate 70 series may appear as another camera beast device in the market.
It is worth mentioning that Huawei is focusing more on China-made parts rather than foreign components. Hence, it’s unclear if the firm will use the IMX989 sensor or not. Also, there isn’t any official confirmation on this subject.
Another recent leak from tipster @FixedFocus says that Huawei will pick a self-developed (Chinese) main sensor for the Mate 70 series. Thus, the latest leak might turn false in the future. It’s better to take this piece of news with a grain of salt for now.
