Huawei autonomous driving flexible patent

Huawei has issued a significant patent that can make the overall autonomous driving strategy more flexible for drivers. Smart car users would be able to adjust it according to their conditions or driving status in the time ahead.

The Chinese phone maker applied for a patent entitled ‘Vehicle Control Method and Device’ in December 2022, which now received approval by the China Intellectual Property Administration. It has the application number CN118182514A.

From the term, the Huawei patent reveals a flexible smart car control method in the autonomous driving field that drivers can adjust as per their preference.

Flexible autonomous driving strategy refers to a more responsive car solution. It aims to maintain the activation state of the vehicle even when the driver is distracted for some time. This ensures a safer and more comfortable driving experience.

How does it work?

The Vehicle Control Method will specifically work in two steps. First is to collect the driver’s physical and psychological condition details when inside the car.

Here, details include certain head postures, line of sight angle, yawning frequency, and the duration when the driver’s eyes remain closed. Smart cars will obtain these details via the sensor system like audio or image acquisition, neural method model, interconnection, or driver monitoring system.

Second step is to analyze the distraction and fatigue levels of the driver based on these inputs. This will ultimately enable the vehicle to access the offline driving level and control factors like first headway, speed, distance threshold, and more.

With these techniques, the autonomous driving mode will auto-adjust to deliver a safe and convenient driving experience, reducing several risk factors in real-time.

Further inputs reveal that this technology is currently suitable for L2 and L3 devices. Huawei aims to make its autonomous driving solutions more interactive for consumers. Such tech patents not only improve driving but also enhance the vehicle experience.
