Breaking: Huawei set to get another 90 days reprieve from the US

After the US trade blacklisting, Huawei was given a temporary license that will expire very soon and according to the latest report, this license will be expanded for another three months.

The U.S. Commerce Department is expected to extend the reprieve given to Huawei that permits the firm to purchase U.S. technologies to serve its existing customers, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The “temporary general license” will be extended for Huawei for 90 days, the sources said.

The US commerce department in May, added Huawei into the trade blacklist or ‘Entity-List’, citing that the company poses a national security threat of which the company has repeatedly denied.

Later on, the company was provided a 90 days reprieve that ends on August 19. As this new extension will give the company a new timeline to maintain existing telecoms networks customers and provide software updates to its Huawei smartphones.

The source also reported that US president and his Chinese counterpart are expected o discuss Huawei on a call this weekend.

On June 29, Donald Trump on the sidelines of G20 in Japan announced that Huawei can resume its purchase. Meanwhile, the commerce department confirmed that interest supplier has to apply for special licenses to do business with Huawei.

Under this licensing program, many big tech firms have requested to acquire a license to sell to Huawei. The Commerce department secretary Wilbur Ross told that last month he had received more than 50 applications, and he expected to receive more. Although, an official announcement is yet to be made by the commerce ministry.
