After surpassing Apple in Q2, Huawei now aims for number one spot in 2019
Huawei is celebrating the time as carnival because after the data released in the second quarter of 2018 shows Huawei finally surpassed Apple in the global smartphone shipment for Q2 and achieved the second spot for the first time.
However, it seems that Huawei is not satisfied with the current position and want some more. Yu Chengdong, Senior Vice President, Huawei Technologies, now started to blow some big horns. That is, “the goal is to achieve a market share of over 20% by the end of 2019 and become the world’s number one,” The time length that Yu choose is shorter than the current expectation to achieve the mark in 2019.
Though in order to be number one in the global market, Huawei needs to surpass South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung. At present, Samsung’s sales volume is more than 300 million units a year and Huawei’s target for this year is 200 million units.
Even though Samsung’s market has fallen in China but according to the data showed in the second quarter, Samsung’s sales have not fallen this year. Samsung’s global market is still growing, and not affected by its quarterly loss. The South Korean company now moving towards to ship at least 300 million units by 2019.
To counter Samsung, Huawei needs to reach 300 million units shipment by 2019 and needs to achieve a growth rate of 50%. It’s a bit of hard to believe but in order to capture the number one spot, Huawei must have to achieve shipment mark first.
