8-core or 12-core, what’s up with Kirin 9000s?

Kirin 9000s is now the word of mouth and most people are talking about the return of the Kirin but benchmark screenshots have created some confusion about its core showing as both 8-core and 12-core. Let’s take a look at the data that we have in hand.

8-core:

The first screenshot shows the Huawei Mate 60 Pro’s device information with octa-core architecture including a 1 + 3 + 4 core combination. These are 1 x 2.62GHz, 3 x 2.15GHz, and 4 x 1.53GHz. The chipset has Meleoon 910 GPU, which is self-developed by Huawei.

With this chip, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is benchmarked on Geekbench. It achieved 914 points on single-core score and 2896 points on multi-core score. This performance is measured just above and around the Kirin 990 chip.

12-core:

Antutu has come up with an entirely different story, its test result reveals 12-core architecture for Kirin 9000s. This consists of 2 x A34 cores, 6 x custom A78AE cores, and 4 x A510 cores, the peak frequency is 2.62GHz.

The CPU score of the Kirin 9000s rated 279677 points. This is higher than the CPU score of the Snapdragon 888, which in some top Android phones ranks below 250000 points. However, Antutu can’t benchmark the chip’s GPU.

Contradictory

Both of the above-mentioned scenarios show two different stories and there’s a lot of contradiction. What’s more important is that Huawei has not revealed the details of the Kirin 9000s or its existence.

The difference in performance and upgrade in cores is massive. What’s more important is that the screenshots surrounding Kirin 9000s come from live hands-on and official sources of Antutu.

Conclusion:

There are some views that Antutu’s benchmark score and its information on the CPU core may be wrong. Also, the octa-core chip details may be the real architecture of the Kirin 9000s.

Still, we are waiting for more information to clear the cloud of 8-core and 12-core confusion for Kirin 9000s.
